Redefining farming for Gen Zs

Context

In a small town just outside Nairobi, three university friends Neville , Rama , and Steve shared more than just group projects and lunch breaks. They shared a vision to build something meaningful, sustainable, and profitable. While their peers focused on white-collar jobs, these three were drawn to the soil. But not the traditional way they wanted to do it smart. That’s when they discovered Irrihub’s drip irrigation kits through research and saw farming in a whole new light and as they continue to farm cabbages so far they claim “ it feels good to feed the nation.”

Aspiration

Their goal was simple yet bold: start a cabbage and Capsicum farm that could generate income, conserve water, and set an example for youth-led agribusiness. With limited capital and no background in farming, they knew they had to rely on innovation. They aspired to use technology to grow food, not just for themselves, but for their community and to prove that farming isn’t “old school” , it’s the future.

Story

Through a local youth training organized under a farming program, they got introduced to Irrihub and its climate-smart solutions. The Irrihub team guided them on how to install a 1/4-acre drip kit, helping them map out their plot, set up the lines, and inject nutrients efficiently. They were amazed at how the system reduced water use, minimized labor, and made cabbage farming predictable even during dry spells.

Outcomes

Within just a few months, their cabbages flourished ,healthy, uniform, and ready for market. They sold out their first harvest to a local trader and even made enough to reinvest in a second plot. What started as a “let’s try this” idea had turned into a profitable venture. Now, the trio is planning to scale into capsicum farming that is steadily doing well from our last visit.
Their story is proof that with the right mindset and the right tools—like Irrihub’s drip kits—farming is not just a hustle. It’s a lifestyle.
